Week 1 — Watch Me, Sit, and Come
Phase 1: Foundation. Goal: Each dog individually performs Watch Me, Sit, Stay (20 seconds / 5 feet), Down, and Come reliably indoors in low-distraction environments.
Day 1
Morning
Charge the clicker (20 reps each dog). Introduce Sit with lure — 10 reps per dog.
Afternoon
Introduce Watch Me — treat to nose to eyes. 10 reps per dog. Begin Come: 3-foot recall indoors.
Evening
Sniff walk. No training.
Day 2
Morning
Sit review (10 reps). Begin fading lure: empty hand signal, reward from other hand.
Afternoon
Come from 5 feet (10 reps per dog). Jackpot every successful recall. Watch Me 5 reps.
Evening
Food bowl impulse control at dinner.
Day 3
Morning
Sit: empty hand lure, 10 reps. Add 1-second wait before clicking.
Afternoon
Come from 8 feet. Begin round robins with available family member. Watch Me build to 2 seconds.
Evening
Door threshold control: no dog exits any door without Sit and release.
Day 4
Morning
Sit in 3 different rooms — 5 reps each location per dog.
Afternoon
Come from 10 feet with mild distraction (TV on). Watch Me 3 seconds.
Evening
IYC Game: closed fist, 10 reps per dog.
Day 5
Morning
Sit: move toward hand signal only (no treat visible). 10 reps per dog.
Afternoon
Come round robin with two people, 10 feet. Jackpot every recall. Watch Me near window.
Evening
Sniff walk. Frozen Kongs.
Day 6
Morning
Sit verbal only (no hand signal) — 5 reps per dog. Back to hand signal if needed.
Afternoon
Come from 15 feet. Move away from dog as they approach to accelerate the recall.
Evening
Food bowl impulse control.
Day 7
Morning
Week 1 assessment: each dog — 10 Sits, 10 recalls, 5 Watch Me. Note what needs work.
Afternoon
Identify any dog not at 8/10 reliability and plan extra reps for Week 2.
Evening
Rest day — sniff walk only.
